Claridon's Edwin competes in the Toyo Tyres BMW Production Championship racing the E30-3 series, a highly competitive series with very experienced drivers who have been racing for many years. This is Edwin’s 2nd season in the championship ( and racing ) and is by far the most inexperienced driver in the championship but is showing great promise.
Sundays race at Brands Hatch was mixed fortunes for the team. During qualifying we suffered a fuelling system fault and loss of power for most of the qualifying session which left us qualifying in 20th position from 32 cars, our worst qualifying position of the season.
In race 1, Edwin managed to gain 6 places and finish 14th and in race 2 finished in 10th position. Overall we were pleased with Edwin’s performance, particularly in race 2 as it’s an extremely competitive series and very difficult to make up places on such a busy grid. Edwin would have been credited with a 9th place finish but on the penultimate lap there was a serious crash and the race red flagged. Under the rules in these circumstances the finishing positions are awarded at the position a lap before the race was stopped, hence being credit with 10th.
The next race is at Thruxton on the 24th of September, which is a very fast circuit. Edwin was testing at Thruxton 6 weeks ago and was putting in some very fast lap times, so we are hoping he can repeat this on race day.
